Lichtenburg Castle is a Renaissance castle built in the 16th century in Prettin. It stands on the site of an earlier monastery and was established as a widow's residence for the electresses of Saxony.
As House Lichtenbergk, it was referred to as a main residence of the Antonite Order in the electoral district near Prettin. Its last preceptor, Wolfgang Reissenbusch, frequently visited Luther's household. Since the last remaining Antonite monks turned to the Reformation in 1525, the monastery was abolished. Some monks received a lifelong pension. In the Antonite House Lichtenbergk, Martin Luther first met with the Electoral Saxon Chancellor Georg Spalatin in 1518, who assured him of the support of the Saxon Elector Frederick the Wise for his church reform efforts.
