Trusetal Waterfall

The Trusetal Waterfall is the highest waterfall in the Thuringian Forest. It is located in the town of Brotterode-Trusetal and is not a naturally occurring natural phenomenon, but an artificially created attraction.
In 1865, the waterfall was constructed under the supervision of building advisor Specht by Trusetal miners. A dam structure diverts water from the Truse below Brotterode. Initially, the 3.5 km long, artificially created waterfall trench winds with a consistent, gentle slope through the forest edge in a curved shape towards the southwest and finally northwest towards the district of Laudenbach, only to approach the actual river valley again in a southern curve about 500 m before the village. At Öhmigshauk, the Trusetal Waterfall initially descends over two smaller cascades and then plunges over the granite rock more than 50 m into a reservoir. Subsequently, the water flows back into the Truse.
