Work of the devil or created by nature? Anyone walking through the bizarre rock formations of the Ferschweiler Plateau can repeatedly ask themselves this question, as some of the gorges and mighty towers of Lias sandstone seem so surreal. The dark gorge with towering walls at the edge of the plateau above the Sauertal is one of the many impressive remnants of the rock slides from the Ice Age and is aptly named "Teufelsloch."
Under no circumstances should you miss the view from the lookout rock above the Teufelsloch, which can be reached via a steep path. From here, you can gaze far over the valley with its wooded slopes and Bollendorf on the right bank of the Sauer.
