Castra Vetera, also known simply as Vetera, was a Roman army camp in the Roman province of Lower Germania. Castra Vetera was an important camp in the limes, the northern border of the Roman Empire along the Rhine. Vetera was located near the present-day German town of Xanten in North Rhine-Westphalia. The name Vetera may have originated from a Germanic word.
