Niederkastenholz Castle

Since the second half of the 11th century, the Kornelimünster Abbey, which was directly under the Empire, is attested as the landlord of the castle and the village of Niederkastenholz, under the protection of the Duke of Jülich.

Until 1804 and the subsequent secularization, Niederkastenholz and its castle remained a beneficium of the monastery provosts. Sold in 1807 by the French domain administration, the castle and associated lands passed to the Lords of Vincke in Flamersheim, later into bourgeois ownership.

The current appearance of the property is essentially the same as that of the 18th century; The main and outer bailey convey the image of a rural castle complex of the 18th century almost unadulterated.
