Park Street 8

Villa Parkstraße 8 is a heritage-listed building in the Cologne district of Marienburg and belongs to the villa colony Köln-Marienburg. It was built in 1914 and 1915 for the merchant and manufacturer Wilhelm Auerbach based on a design by the architect Paul Pott.
Originally, the property at Parkstr. 8 was part of the area of the "Maschinen-Fabrik P. Kyll". After its relocation, the newspaper publisher Josef Neven DuMont acquired the site, had the factory buildings demolished, and first created a spacious villa with a park for himself – also based on a design by Paul Pott. After extending Parkstraße in a northern direction over his property, DuMont sold the central building plots located west of the new street – with a street frontage of over 32 meters and an average depth of 42 meters – in 1913 to the manufacturer Wilhelm Auerbach. He in turn commissioned Paul Pott with the planning of a villa, which was completed by 1915. During the time of National Socialism, Auerbach sold his property. The new owner had a garage and a protective bunker built in 1938/1939, with the planning for these works in the hands of the architect Heinrich Reinhardt.
