Originally, there was a "blue mill" at this location, where woad plants were processed using water power. The juice obtained had a blue color after fermentation, indigo. The Nesselrath land register from 1605 records that the mill was built by Sebastian Tenz around 1599. Probably only at the beginning of the 18th century did a grinding shop emerge as a double cottage constructed in half-timbered style. The earlier outbuildings in half-timbered style have been preserved. In 1906, the outer cottage burned down. It was replaced the following year by a brick building. Up until that point, the water wheel was still in operation. Only after the reconstruction of the fire ruins was water power replaced by electricity. Until 1979, a Solingen company employed 45 staff to produce knife blades for the cutlery industry.
