Lürken was a district of Eschweiler north of Eschweiler-Hehlrath. The residents of Lürken were relocated between 1960 and 1963. The site was excavated in 1965 due to the brown coal open pit mine "Zukunft West," becoming the first place in the area of the West group to be mined away.
Today, a memorial stone and the old village cross, located about 500 m north of the former village center, are reminders of Lürken. The small farming village has played a significant role in the history of the Reformed communities for centuries. The gravestones from the Protestant cemetery are preserved in the entrance area of the Dürwiß cemetery. The center of the village was the Lürken Castle.
