Little Malche

The Little Malche is the southernmost bay of Lake Tegel. It is located in the Berlin district of Tegel in the Reinickendorf borough.

Its southwestern shore forms a narrow peninsula and isthmus that extends southwest of Saatwinkel between the Berlin-Spandau shipping canal and Lake Tegel up to the Havel. The Little Malche, which is closed to shipping traffic, is separated from Lake Tegel by an artificial dam that is not publicly accessible, which has an approximately 20 meter wide passage to the lake in the middle. Opposite the bay is the island of Maienwerder, just 40 meters from the dam. The western part of the peninsula, which the Halligweg runs towards, is occupied by the settlers' cooperative "Auf der Hallig" eG, which is why the entire peninsula is sometimes referred to as Little Hallig. The length of the bay is 390 meters, the maximum width is 140 meters, covering an area of 4.18 hectares or 41,842 m². The dam to Lake Tegel has an enclosed passage with a length of 380 meters. At the eastern end of the Hallig, the Saatwinkler bridge, part of the Berlin–Copenhagen long-distance cycling route, crosses the Hohenzollern canal.
