Schloss Oberwiederstedt is a former manor in Arnstein in the Mansfeld-Südharz district, Saxony-Anhalt. It is the seat of the Novalis Research Centre for Early Romantic Studies.
The Renaissance castle served as a refuge for the relocated Dominican nuns, who had previously settled in Kupferberg near Hettstedt, from 1261 until the Reformation and the associated secularization. In 1772, the estate, which the noble family von Hardenberg acquired in the 17th century through marriage, became the birthplace of the poet Friedrich von Hardenberg, who called himself Novalis. At the beginning of the 19th century, the family leased the estate for several years and moved to other holdings. Among others, Hans Freiherr von Hardenberg, who became the district administrator of the Mansfeld mountain district and vice president of the government, was born in the castle. Until the expropriation and expulsion of the family in October 1945, the manor remained the family seat of the Freiherren von Hardenberg.
