Hell Ground

The Höllengrund, also known as Höllgrund, is an approximately 900 m long section of a valley floor in the Großschweidnitzer Wasser in Dürrhennersdorf, situated between the former Dürrhennersdorfer Höllmühle and Großschweidnitz. To the southwest, the 347 m high Höllenberg adjoins it.
With its steep, uneven gradient and a slope angle of up to 60 degrees, the Höllengrund represents the type of the frequently occurring Upper Lusatian scales, such as the Gröditzer scale. Powerful gravel and boulders of Lusatian granodiorite partially traverse the watercourse, which follows the character of a higher mid-mountain stream. Along the riverbank, varied forest forms stand amidst a diverse ground flora with tree species such as sycamore, common ash, and pedunculate oak; however, the largest area share in the narrow valley floor and on the north-facing slopes is occupied by spruce forest, while pine and larch predominately thrive on the south-facing slopes.
