The Irreler Waterfalls, or the Waterfalls of Irrel, are a well-known attraction in the Eifel. The waterfalls are located in a beautiful area, the Südeifel Nature Park, which also features lovely hiking trails.
The Irreler Waterfalls are situated in the area between the villages of Irrel and Prümzurlay, not far from the border with Luxembourg. In this area, you can also find the famous Teufelsschlucht, which has been discussed in a previous article.
The waterfalls were actually formed during the last ice age. At that time, large boulders rolled down, and the small river Prüm still finds its way through the maze of boulders today. A "white water course" with a length of 140 meters.
A beautiful large wooden bridge has been built over the water, allowing you to view and experience the Irreler Waterfalls from above. Along the water and the paths, various lookout points have been created so you can enjoy a great view.
When talking about the Waterfalls of Irrel, one might expect a high waterfall similar to the Klindinger Waterfall, for example.
However, the Irreler Waterfalls are actually more rapids or a kind of "white water course." It is also practiced here with white water canoeing.
The Irreler Waterfalls are worth a visit, and it is certainly fun to combine that with a trip to the Teufelsschlucht and the Dinopark Teufelesschlucht.
There are also several hiking trails in the area, so the waterfalls make a nice starting point or endpoint for a walk.
You will find the waterfalls between Irrel and Prümzurlay, just outside Irrel. There is a parking lot along the main road (the L4) from where you can start walking.
