For centuries, the impressive Coronation Hall hosted banquets in honor of newly crowned kings. Between 813 and 1531, no fewer than 31 German kings were crowned in Aachen—a testament to the importance of the city and its town hall in European history. Today, the International Charlemagne Prize is awarded annually in this hall to individuals who champion European unity.
