The Wimbach Gorge is a gorge carved by the wild Wimbach stream, extending over about 200 meters in Ramsau near Berchtesgaden in Bavaria. It is located in the Berchtesgaden National Park at the narrowing exit of the Wimbach Valley.
The dominant rock of the gorge is Dachstein limestone, which was deposited during the Upper Triassic period. Numerous fossils in the walls of the gorge indicate that there must have once been a sea here. A hike through the gorge to Wimbach Castle allows one to traverse a period of about 50 million years. The rocks found here include flaser limestones, red limestones, radiolarites, and chert-bearing limestones.
