Miersdorf Village Church

The village church of Miersdorf is a hall church from the 14th century in the eponymous district of the municipality of Zeuthen in the Dahme-Spreewald district. It is one of the few Teltow sacred buildings that was built from irregular, hardly worked field stones.
Exact information regarding the date of construction is not available. In 1375, Miersdorf was already a parish village, thus having its own church with a pastor in the village. Historians assume that there was already a predecessor structure made of timber or wood. Probably in the 14th or possibly only in the 15th century, the church community built a simple hall church with a rectangular floor plan on the village green. The early date of its construction is especially indicated by the disordered layering of the field stones, which are neither sorted nor worked. This construction method is attributed to early Gothic architecture. On the other hand, the gable was significantly steeper at an earlier point in time, which rather suggests construction during the late Gothic period.
