St. George is the Roman Catholic parish and collegiate church of the city of Wassenberg in the Heinsberg district.
Around the year 1118, a new church was built in Wassenberg, which was consecrated on September 30, 1118, by Bishop Otbert of Liège. The construction of the new house of worship was related to its designation as a parish church and the foundation of the collegiate. This Romanesque hall church was expanded after 1250 with two side aisles into a three-aisled pillar basilica. Around the year 1420, the still-preserved three-story bell tower in Gothic style was added to the nave. In 1802, the convent of Wassenberg, founded in 1118, was dissolved by the French.
