The coastal resort of Hooksiel is a district of the municipality of Wangerland in the district of Friesland, which historically belonged to Oldenburg, part of the East Frisian Peninsula. The name of the locality is based on the term "Hook" for nose or projection and the term Siel as a designation of a drainage place.
