The state Pestalozzi Gymnasium Munich is one of four music-oriented high schools in Munich. The name goes back to the Swiss educator Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi. The school is known for its choirs, orchestras, and theater productions.
On December 3, 1908, the new building of the school on Eduard-Schmid-Strasse was inaugurated; previously, there was a children's care institution on the same site. From 1908 to 1935, the Royal District Teacher Training Institute for Upper Bavaria was located there. During the years 1914 to 1919, the Maria-Theresia District Secondary School was quartered there due to the war. After 1935, the building became the Hanns-Schemm School for Advanced Studies.
