Engelthal Abbey was an Augustinian convent on the northern edge of the historic old town of Bonn. No remains of the buildings have been preserved.
According to undocumented tradition, the monastery of Zum Engelthal was founded in the first decade of the 11th century by the pious citizen Geckela from her inherited fortune. In order to obtain papal confirmation, she personally made a pilgrimage to Pope John XIX. On the site of the new monastery there had previously been a temple of Mars. The monastery received the patronage of the Mother of God, the Archangel Michael and all the angels. The convent consisted of noble women.
