Marburg Art Association

The Marburg Art Association is a non-profit and registered association based in Marburg, dedicated to the mediation of contemporary art. It is the sponsor of the Marburg Art Hall.
The art association was founded in 1953. It emerged from a "circle of artists," in which artists of the city, such as the renowned painter Franz Frank, came together to create a platform for communication and a space for exhibitions after World War II. Among the co-founders was also the former mayor of Marburg, Eugen Siebecke, who painted himself. In 1958, the first exhibition space of the art association was opened at Am Markt 16 in the upper town of Marburg, above the town hall. In 1978, the exhibition area was expanded to include the upper floor of the building. In 2000, the new Marburg Art Hall of the art association was opened at Gerhard-Jahn-Platz 5, on the site of the former slaughterhouse. In the old building at Am Markt, the "House of Romanticism e.V." is now located, which is intended to commemorate the era of Romanticism in Marburg.
