Since January 1, 2004, Krankenhaus Bad Arolsen GmbH has been a subsidiary of Gesundheit Nordhessen Holding, based in Bad Arolsen. Around 6,000 inpatients are treated in the hospital every year. In addition, there are around 15,000 outpatient treatments, examinations and operations.
The idea of founding a hospital in Arolsen goes back to the Waldeck Privy Finance Councillor Marc von Stockhausen and the Privy Councillor Keusler. In 1844, they asked Prince Georg Heinrich von Waldeck und Pyrmont to buy the potter's house and set up a country hospital there. The prince approved this proposal in 1845 on the condition that a precise plan be drawn up for the hospital. The hospital was to be operated by a foundation, to which the building was given free of charge.
