Eilenburg City Museum

The Eilenburg City Museum is a professionally run local history museum in the Saxon city of Eilenburg. The city archive of Eilenburg is also organizationally assigned to the city museum. Access to the Eilenburg mountain cellars is possible exclusively through guided tours upon prior registration via the city museum.
In 1900, the Eilenburg pastor and local historian Wilhelm Büchting suggested the establishment of an antiquities museum to display the existing evidence of the city's history for the general public. Initially, two rooms of the town hall were available for the collection. Over the course of history, the museum changed location several times, including for a long period being housed in the former excursion restaurant Wilhelmshöhe. Since 2003, the facility has been located in a central position in the historic inn "Zum Roten Hirsch," a building of great historical significance to the city.
