Bacharach was first mentioned in a document in 871. Bacharach has long owed its fame to viticulture and wine trade. As early as the Middle Ages, this town was world-renowned as the main center for wine storage along the Middle Rhine, the Nahe, and the Rheingau. It was one of the most famous wine towns.
