Next to the parish church of St. Mary’s Birth in Eggerode near Schöppingen stands the Chapel of Grace. It was built in the years 1843/44 as an octagonal structure with a cupola roof and lantern, replacing two previous buildings.
A bell from the year 1851 is mounted in the lantern. The chapel was enlarged in 1951 by the choir building and in 1992 by the candle chapel.
Inside, the gaze is directed towards the Baroque altar from the 17th century, which most likely originates from the former Klein-Burlo monastery, located halfway between Eggerode and Darfeld. The altar houses the grace image “Our Lady of Heaven.” It is assumed that members of the Stryck family, who participated in the Crusades (1096-1270), brought this grace image from there and placed it in their church.
