Old Station and Generations Park Darfeld

The last train stopped in 1984 in the Rosendahl district of Darfeld. After a period of vacancy and decay, the station building is now experiencing a renaissance as the "Heimat- und Kulturbahnhof Darfeld" and is used for readings, performances, exhibitions, and all activities of the local heritage association.

In 2007, the districts of Steinfurt and Coesfeld decided to reactivate the disused railway line from Rheine to Lutum as the "Radbahn Münsterland." The train station in Darfeld was intended to become a tourist highlight. In the third construction phase from 2009 to 2011, the cycling path works coming from Steinfurt reached the area of the Coesfeld district in Rosendahl. Citizens of Darfeld, who had recently come together in the citizens' initiative "Ideas for Darfeld," recognized a unique opportunity. Supported by the political bodies, they planned a so-called "Generationenpark." Generously funded as a LEADER project, a recreational area was created with the dedicated efforts of many volunteers from Darfeld, which has since become a popular meeting point for cycling tourists. Furthermore, and perhaps more importantly, the once bustling train station has become part of village life again. Thanks to the café operated by the heritage association and many activities in the indoor and outdoor areas, there is always something happening!
