The Hervester colliery settlement was laid out in 1912 between today's Halterner Straße and the Lippe: On the east side, the Catholic area with Josefschule and Josefkirche was built, on the west side the Protestant district with Augustaschule and today's Kreuzkirche.
Today, the mines are closed, the work is no longer on the doorstep. "The new use of the colliery area and the creation of sustainable jobs are a major challenge," Lütkenhorst admits that the structural change has not yet taken effect as desired. Nevertheless, the district of Hervest should not be bad-mouthed: through renovation and modernization, the settlement has developed a charm of its own.
