The Niezelgrund hydropower plant is a small hydropower plant under monument protection in Saxony, located between Porschendorf and Lohmen on the Wesenitz.
The power plant is based on a weir facility built in 1877, which initially powered adjacent machines in the sawmill and the carton factory Weber & Niezel through transmission. In 1910, a Francis turbine and electric generator with an installed capacity of 180 kW were put into operation to generate electrical energy, followed in 1932 by the expansion to include a second turbine with 80 kW. After World War II, a partial renovation of the weir facility took place in 1963. In 1969, the power plant was shut down due to unprofitability and the facility was left to decay.
After the reunification, the plant was recommissioned in 2000 with a Kaplan turbine, with a fall height of 10.4 m and an installed capacity of 215 kW at a flow rate of up to 2.6 m³/s. A residual water quantity of at least 0.45 m³/s remains in the Wesenitz.
