Kraußnitz

Kraußnitz is a district of the Saxon municipality of Schönfeld in the district of Meißen. The village is located directly at the state border with Brandenburg, was first mentioned in 1350, and has belonged to Schönfeld since 1996.

Kraußnitz is located about eight kilometers northeast of Schönfeld, in the northern part of the Meißen district. The village is situated at an elevation of 117 meters above sea level in a wetland designated as a natural monument. The Linzer Wasser flows through Kraußnitz. It springs from the eponymous Schönfeld district of Linz and then flows through smaller ponds and Kraußnitz to Ortrand in Brandenburg. There, the Linzer Wasser flows into the Pulsnitz. Kraußnitz is divided into a southern part along the village street and a northern part along the Ortrander Straße. The two parts are separated by agricultural land, which surrounds the village to the east, south, and west. The riverbank of the Linzer Wasser is thinly wooded. District road 8536 runs through Kraußnitz, connecting the village with Ponickau, Böhla, and Ortrand. On the Brandenburg side, there is also access to state road 55, which is called state road 99 in Saxony. The motorway junction "Ortrand" provides access to the federal motorway 13, which runs about 1.5 kilometers west of Kraußnitz.
