Albert Kuntz Sports Park

The Albert Kuntz Sports Park is a football stadium in the Thuringian city of Nordhausen at the southern edge of the Harz mountains. The facility is the venue for the football club FSV Wacker 90 Nordhausen. It is named after the KPD politician Albert Kuntz, who was murdered in 1945 at the Mittelbau-Dora concentration camp, north of Nordhausen. The Wacker Sports Park offers 8,088 spectator seats, of which 1,088 are seated and 7,000 are standing. The seating and 1,500 standing places are covered. In addition to the main field with natural grass, the site offers three auxiliary fields with natural turf, artificial turf, and a hard court. The two-story stadium building is equipped with six cabins, showers, and coaches' rooms. Directly connected to the sports park is the Hotel Am Stadtpark with a restaurant.
The predecessor club of FSV Wacker 90 Nordhausen, F.C. Wacker Nordhausen, was founded in 1905 and played its home games on a site between the present-day Puschkin and Geschwister-Scholl streets. It later moved to the border grass at the Kurhaus, which lies west of the current sports park. As another venue, a field near the former slaughterhouse on Kyffhäuserstraße was used. However, this was not a permanent solution, and a long-term solution was sought.
