St.-Josef-Stift Sendenhorst is a hospital in the small town of Sendenhorst near Münster, Germany. It was opened as a general hospital in 1889, converted into a specialist orthopaedic clinic in 1960 and a rheumatism clinic in 1980.
The hospital was donated by Josef Spithöver, a bookbinder, bookseller and art dealer from Sendenhorst who had made a fortune in Rome. The building was designed by the architect Wilhelm Rincklake in the style of a baroque castle with neo-Gothic elements and a mighty church tower in the middle. Spithöver donated 362,000 gold marks for the construction and another 300,000 gold marks as foundation assets so that needy Sendenhorst residents could be treated and cared for free of charge. He placed the hospital under the protection of its namesake, St. Joseph and St. Elizabeth. The nursing care was taken over by the Franciscan Sisters of Mauritz. You worked at St. Josef's Abbey until 2021.
