The Elmpter Wald is a forest area west of the German Elmpt to the German-Dutch border. The western edge is formed by a steep edge from the middle terrace to the high terrace of the Meuse. Here the landscape goes up from about 30 meters to more than 50 meters. The Elmpter Schwalmbruch nature reserve, with the valley of the Swalm, borders the forest to the north. In the south, the forest area connects to National Park De Meinweg. To the west and south, close to the German-Dutch border, lies the 250 ha nature reserve Lüsekamp und Boschbeektal.
The Elmpter Wald is intersected by many gravel roads, and is therefore popular with hikers, mountain bikers and gravel bikers.
