In Hoch-Elten, some nameplates refer to the early history of this place.

Hamaland
Hamaland was a county (mark) of the Carolingian Empire. The name first appears in written sources in the 9th century and ceased to exist around the middle of the 11th century. It roughly encompassed an area west of the IJssel, the western part of the Achterhoek and the Liemers, with the area around Deventer in the north and Elten in the south. The rulers of Hamaland acquired their wealth through, among other things, iron production in their mark.
Stift …….
At the end of the 9th and the beginning of the 10th century, there was a castle of the counts of Hamaland on the Eltenberg.
Probably around 967, Count Wichmann founded a women's monastery for secular (high) noble canons with the chapter church of Elten. In 968, Emperor Otto I donated the estate, which Count Wichmann had held as a feudal property, to the chapter church of Elten. Stift Elten was an area over which the abbot/prince, as a representative of the emperor, had secular authority.
After the Napoleonic wars (late 18th early 19th century), the Stift Elten ceased to exist. During the end of the Second World War, most buildings were destroyed and were not rebuilt/restored thereafter.
Graf-Wichmann-Allee
Wichmann IV (c. 920 - c. 974) He was the count of Hamaland and founder of the abbey of Elten.
Luitgardisstraβe
Liutgard (Luitgardis/Lutgardt) of Elten (c. 953 - c. 990) was the youngest daughter of Wichmann IV and Liutgard van Vlaanderen. Through her mother, she was a great-great-great, etc., granddaughter of Charlemagne. She became the first abbess of the stift Elten founded by her father.
