The wheel gymnastics symbol can be seen everywhere, on souvenirs, on candy, on the beautiful door knocker of the St. Hubertus Church, on manhole covers, and on a lovely statue in Burgplatz. Although there are various legends that explain its origin, the Battle of Worringen is the most well-known. Düsseldorf was merely a simple farming village in 1135, but in 1288 it gained city rights after the Battle of Worringen. Citizens and children were so thrilled that they started performing wheel gymnastics out of joy.
