Quintus Postumius Potens has fulfilled his vow to the goddess Diana (and dedicated the stone to her).
It was erected in the 2nd century AD as a sacred stone in honor of the goddess Diana. Presumably, a prosperous Romanized local resident wanted to thank Diana for an extraordinarily successful hunt or for her help in danger. The Diana cult was a part of popular belief throughout the Eifel region into the late Middle Ages. According to legend, Saint Willibrord personally destroyed the commemorative stone during the Christianization of the area.
