Description by the author

A short walk of approx. 4.3 km from the Saarland Mining Museum at the Bexbach flower garden via the former Bexbach glider site back to the flower garden. The "Monte Barbara" with its stone statue of St. Barbara can of course also be climbed.

The Monte Barbara trail starts at the Saarland Mining Museum and is very suitable for a walk around the area. The flower garden with the Gulliver World 2.0 can also be visited free of charge. An app-based listening tour about the life and work of the miners of the time also attracts visitors with interesting stories at several stations:

Here you can get an insight into the hard life of the miners and how the coal was extracted from the mine. Right at the entrance is a pit cage with the corresponding drive pulley, which transported the miners from the depths of the mine to the surface. From here, the tour leads through the flower garden with its Gulliver World 2.0 towards Monte Barbara. To the left and right of the path, you can marvel at the world's top sights in miniature. At the foot of Monte Barbara is a small vineyard, the result of an experiment by the Bexbacher Heimatverein. From here, the path leads uphill towards the summit. On the way, it is worth stopping for a moment to pick up the black stones of the spoil tip. It is not uncommon to find traces of fossilized plants, especially grasses and ferns, which can be seen as dark lines. On reaching the summit, the question of where the spoil tip got its name is answered. A statue of St. Barbara, the patron saint of miners, crowns the top of the slag heap. The statue originally stood in the valley - at the last Bexbach mine, which had to make way for the large coal-fired power station in the 1950s. It is easily recognizable from up here with its large cooling tower. Monte Barbara was created by the so-called coal washing plant, which was located at Bexbach railroad station, which can be clearly seen at the foot. This is where the coal was separated from the unusable slag
