The starting and ending point of the approximately 50-kilometer circular route is the Historical Town Hall of the more than 1000-year-old district town of Burg (near Magdeburg). The circular route leads through the districts of Parchau and Ihleburg to Zerben, where in the castle Elisabeth Freiin von Plotho - the historical inspiration for Theodor Fontanes Effi Briest - once lived. Beyond Zerben, the circular route joins the Elbe Cycle Path, which is then followed southwards. Further stops on the circular route include the NABU Nature Adventure Park Blumenthal and the old lock Niegripp, before returning to the starting point of the tour.
The approximately 50-kilometer circular route around Burg starts on Breiter Weg at the Historical Town Hall of the city of Burg. The route leads via Berliner Straße directly past the church Unser Lieben Frauen. The church, first mentioned in a document in 1186, is part of the Romanesque Road. In the immediate vicinity are the Historical Towers of the city of Burg, including the Witch Tower, the Cow or Freedom Tower, and the Berlin Gate Tower. The timber-framed house at Berliner Straße 38 is the oldest documented residential building in the city and now houses the city library, a venue for numerous cultural events. With great momentum, the route now leads down Koloniestraße into the green Elbe lowlands at the gates of the city of Burg. After passing through the districts of Parchau and Ihleburg, you reach the village of Zerben, where you can follow in the footsteps of Effi Briest. Born in 1853 at Zerben Castle, Elisbateh von Ardenne was the real-life inspiration for the famous character in Theodor Fonates eponymous novel. The castle still serves as a reminder of her life, loves, and sorrows. Beyond Zerben, the circular route joins the Elbe Cycle Path, Germanys most popular cycle path. In the middle of the Biosphere Reserve Elbe River Landscape, you reach the NABU Nature Adventure Park Blumenthal after about half of the route. On an area of 10 hectares, various habitats await you, including orchards, a zoo, a playground, and much more. During the holidays, various activities for children take place here, and affordable accommodation options are available for cyclists. At the old lock Niegripp, you leave the Elbe Cycle Path. The tourist rest area with the converted towboat Olaf invites you to take a break once more before heading back to Burg. Upon returning to Burg, the circular route passes by the train station along Goethepark, which will be part of the State Garden Show 2018. Upon arrival at the Town Hall, the drummer of Burg greets you with his legendary sounds.
Paid parking spaces are available directly in front of the Historical Town Hall.
