Description

The Garden Dreams consist of 50 historic parks and gardens in Saxony-Anhalt, describing the history of garden art and various types of gardens.

Start your cycling tour in Magdeburg and ride along the waterway junction to Burg with its four former garden show areas. Along the way, discover who inspired Theodor Fontanes Effi Briest and visit the late Romanesque Jerichow Monastery. The route leads through Bismarcks birthplace Schönhausen to Tangermünde with its medieval-looking cityscape. On your way back, explore Briest with its Renaissance castle and landscape park, as well as Tangerhütte with its city park. End your journey in Magdeburg with a visit to Elbauenpark.

Route Description

Day 5

Tangermünde – Bertingen (approx. 44 km)

From Tangermünde, head south towards Buch. Leave the Elbe Cycle Path and cycle via Weißewarte to the Garden Dreams in Briest and Tangerhütte. Briest is home to the oldest ancestral seat of the Bismarck family. The city park of Tangerhütte, as part of the Garden Dreams, was created by entrepreneur Franz Wagenführ in the 19th century as a 12-hectare park in the style of Lenné-Mayer. The roundel of lid vases, the artificially created waterfall, and the mausoleum still impress visitors today.

From Tangerhütte, cycle through Birholz, Cobbel, and Uetz to Bertingen, the destination of todays stage.
