Small lock tour

Short description

The bike tour takes you on a small circular route from the Trogbrücke Hohenwarthe to the double lock Hohenwarthe, to the lock Niegripp and back.

Description

You ride from the parking lot about 100m up the parking lot driveway to the ramp to the canal. There you cycle on an asphalted path right next to the Mittellandkanal to the double lock Hohenwarthe. Here, before you start the return trip, you can take a detour to the lock Niegripp. Back at the double lock, you cross it to get to the other side of the canal. There, immediately next to the canal, a gravelled cycle path on the other side of the canal leads you back to the exit Waldschänke in the area of the Trogbrücke. You now ride next to the canal embankment to the Trogbrücke, which you pass under parallel and in close proximity to the Elbe. After a small ascent, you reach the parking lot at the Hotel zur Trogbrücke again - the starting point of your small circular tour.
There are seating options along the way to take a break.

It is recommended to take a short ride over the Elbe to visit the lock and the ship lift Rothensee.

Canal Bridge (Trogbrücke) Hohenwarthe - over a length of 918 meters (690m of which are foreland bridge), the Mittellandkanal crosses here with a height difference of 16m over the Elbe. The construction time of this technical masterpiece was 5 years.
