Short description

Discover the churches of the Reformation by bike and explore the diversity of the natural and cultural landscape of Altmark.

Description

This stage tour of the Altmark Reformation Cycle Path connects over 10 churches of two united communities. The approximately 38-kilometer long route leads cyclists away from the main roads from one church to the next. Each station is marked by a stele with one of Martin Luthers 95 Theses and a rose as a symbol of the Reformation. The circular route is being expanded step by step, with the goal of reaching 95 stations, one for each thesis.

Many churches with their own charm are represented on this tour, including:

  • Letzlingen Castle Church: The church is built in the English Tudor style and impresses with its two minaret-like towers on the west facade and its tall windows...
  • St. Georg in Gardelegen: The chapel was referred to as Maria Magdalenen Chapel in the first documents from 1362...
  • Nikolaikirche Kalbe (Milde): The Nikolaikirche was built in the mid-12th century, around 1150. It is considered one of the oldest fieldstone churches in the Altmark...
