Description by the author

Wental, a well-known name and much-visited place on the eastern Swabian Alb. However, most tourists only know the sea of rocks near the Landhotel Wental. Experience more.

The route starts from Lauterburg, the beautiful little village on the Albrand, which belongs to the municipality of Essingen. Initially more along the Trauf, we reach Irmannsweiler via the Weiherwiesen nature reserve. After many open spaces, now through dark spruce forest, we hike into the Wental valley without any great differences in altitude. The first dolomite rocks soon appear and fascinate us with their variety of shapes. We turn around at the Landhotel Wental and make our way back. The path leads past two large sinkholes to Birkenteich and then towards the wind turbines visible on the horizon. We reach Lauterburg again via wide open spaces. Passing the castle ruins and church, we return to the starting point at a leisurely pace.</p
