Description by the author

On the descent from Hochkopf to Schweigmatt, hikers experience the entire diversity of the landscape of the southern Black Forest: from the mountain meadows near Todtmoos to the sparse mixed forests and panoramic forest edges near Gersbach to the first orchards. And as a highlight, the tower of the Hohe Möhr beckons with a magnificent distant view of the Swiss Alps and the Swiss Jura as well as the Dinkelberg mountain below.

At the Weißenbachsattel, the Westweg passes the "gateway to the Wehratal" and then leads down to the Hochkopfhütte. From there, it climbs gently uphill through spruce and alder forest and across fragrant mountain meadows to Todtmoos-Lehen. After St. Antoni, the trail disappears deep into the forest. Sometimes to the north, sometimes to the south, it skirts the densely wooded crests of the ridge line and passes the Altenstein cross before emerging from the dark green at the thresholds. Along the edge of the forest over the thresholds, there is a fantastic view to the south of the Gersbach sun terrace and as far as the Swiss Jura. Ahead you can already see the Hohe Möhr with its characteristic tower on the summit. The ascent to the last high Black Forest summit begins at Sandwürfesattel. Finally, the path winds its way upwards in numerous hairpin bends. A short detour to a spring fountain promises to cool you down before you reach the viewing tower on the Hohe Möhr (983 m), built in 1893 from stone and wood. Thanks to the platform at a height of 25 meters, the Westweg hiker can climb another "thousand". The 144 steps are rewarded with a panoramic view over the south-western tip of the Black Forest. From the tower, the trail follows the familiar red diamonds downhill through the forest, which it only leaves again at the Waldhaus mountain inn. Schweigmatt clings to the steep south-western slope of the Hohe Möhr like an eagle's nest. With a view of the Dinkelberg, over which the final stages to Basel run, the hiker slowly says goodbye to the Black Forest.
