Insights and views in the Lower Lusatian Heathland Nature Park

Forest, heath, pond, and orchard meadow - on this tour, hikers can explore the nature park with its various habitats on a small scale. At the end, hikers are rewarded with a great view and an orchard oasis to rest. The starting point is the Waldhufe restaurant in Doberlug-Kirchhain. Starting from here, take the hiking trail to the right past the restaurant, turn left twice. Dense pine forest alternates with idyllic forest meadows, and along the edges of the path, you will discover berry bushes and lichens. Hike until you reach the large intersection, then turn left onto the Panzerplatten path. Where the tanks once rolled, you can now leisurely examine the relics at your feet. At the second intersection, turn right until the forest becomes lighter and transforms into a heath area sparsely covered with birch trees. In late summer, a lilac natural spectacle awaits you on the former military training ground. Once you have walked into the heath area, choose the left path at the intersection, which will lead you back into the forest. Turn left onto the former mail coach route. Following Torgauer Straße, turn right past the second bus stop towards the next destination, the Unkenteiche ponds. Those who walk here in the late afternoon in spring can hear the typical Uupp of the toads and even spot them in the water. Take the next left turn into the young orchard alley. Once again, turn left to leave the alley and enter the path lined with wild fruit hedges. Straight across the road, the plum alley leads directly to the orchard meadow on Waldhufe, mostly covered with cherry trees.
