Description

The Wettin geotrail offers a thematically oriented hiking and educational experience for visitors in the Lower Saale Valley nature park.
The 9 km long educational trail, as a circular route, opens up the area northwest of Wettin. The diverse geological conditions and remnants of mining in the historically interesting area are explained on ten panels. With its focus on geology and mining history, the Wettin geotrail complements the existing natural or cultural landscape educational trails in the nature park area. The facts presented on the display boards provide a comprehensive picture of the geological conditions.
The former Wettin coal mining region is considered a site of a classic Carboniferous flora and fauna. Visitors can enjoy impressive views of the nature park area extending along the lower Saale. The trail, mostly leading over paved and unpaved field paths, takes about 3 hours to complete.
