Nature and adventure trail: Grass Snake Path

How do amphibians see the world and where do they really feel at home? The Grass Snake Path takes hikers through the grasslands near Goyatz. A vivid description is provided of the endangered habitats of reptiles, amphibians and insects. And on a trunk shaped like a grass snake, young and old alike can find out what it feels like to balance like an amphibian on branches in the undergrowth. Panels, signs and other exhibits are be found along this two-kilometre circular trail, which is particularly suitable for families with young children and senior citizens.
This nature trail is one of a total of six circular paths that follow the Ludwig Leichhardt Trail in loops. All of them together form the Ludwig Leichhardt Nature Trail, covering a total length of some 32 kilometres. This makes it one of the longest nature trails in Germany. Each path is dedicated to a selected aspect of the impressive and varied natural landscapes between Goyatz and Butzen.

Route description/points of interest/background information: The path starts and ends at the former Spreewald railway station in Goyatz and leads through the forest and meadows south of Goyatz. The museum in the railway carriage in Goyatz is also worth seeing, while the passenger boat ride on Lake Schwielochsee offers an additional experience of the natural setting.
