On the low-gradient bike tour, cyclists and children experience the rivers Werre and Bega. They gaze in awe at the treetops on the plane tree avenue in Grastrup-Hölsen.

Welcome to the Environmental Center Heerser MillWe start our ride at the Salzhof in the idyllic city center of Bad Salzuflen. Along the Werre, we quickly reach the remarkable and family-friendly environmental center at Heerser Mill. The expansive mill grounds are a great learning place about the wonders of nature for children and adults.
A large sundial greets families and children with the inscription, "Time for Children, Time at the Environmental Center."
The association "Environmental Center Heerser Mill e. V." is the sponsor of the environmental center and a non-profit, recognized provider of youth welfare. The environmental center has been actively engaged for many years in the areas of nature conservation and environmental education.
In the enchanted, naturally grown niches, it is worth pausing, listening to the splashing of the Werre, or experiencing the refreshing feeling of the river with your feet.

It warms the hearts of bee enthusiasts to see the numerous bee hotels. Perhaps some may want to count all the bee hotels, surely they would come up with an impressive number!
After the excursion at the Environmental Center Heerser Mill and a cozy break at the mill café, we pedal again and accompany the Werre and the Bega. The Lippe River Bega flows into the Werre near Bad Salzuflen. The Werre flows into the Weser at Bad Oeynhausen-Rehme. The river journey of the Weser continues to Bremerhaven, where it flows into the North Sea.

Nature experience around Bad SalzuflenThe Ziegelroute cycle path winds between the two rivers to Hartigsee and Krietfeldsee.
At the lake shores, there are resting places for a break and for observing waterfowl. Looking through binoculars allows us to experience nature up close, which never stops.
Not far from the lakes is the well-known LWL Museum Ziegelei Lage.

In addition to the well-known salt production in Bad Salzuflen, brick production was essential to people's lives. It was an important workplace for the local people. And without bricks, there would be no roof over their heads.

Unique Plane Tree AvenueFollowing the orange signposts, we ride through the rural region and reach another scenic highlight between Grastrup-Hölsen and Retzen after several kilometers. Just before the Ostwestfalenstraße lies the remarkable Plane Tree Avenue near the landscape garden Gut Hündersen. This garden can mainly be guessed behind the walls now, but those who ride under the gnarled and majestic plane trees feel like a cycling queen or king.

Regional cycling paths from Bad SalzuflenOn low-traffic bike paths and roads, we ride through the districts of the large community of Bad Salzuflen on the last kilometers and reach our destination, the Salzhof in the historic city center of Bad Salzuflen.
