Paderborner Höhenweg - Panoramic tour around Neuenbeken

The approximately 21-kilometer long panoramic tour runs on both sides of the Beketal valley between Neuenbeken and Altenbeken, mainly on very pleasant forest paths. Only a few sections of the route are asphalted. Nevertheless, the tour is not an easy pleasure, as it is not stingy with altitude meters: Over the entire route, these add up to around 480, which you have to climb up, but fortunately also go back down.

However, even hikers who prefer it less strenuous have been taken into account. They benefit from a cross-connection that divides the circular route into a 14.5-kilometer long northern loop and a good 11-kilometer long southern loop. The starting point of the Paderborn Hoehenweg is the mission house in the center of the village of Neuenbeken. Gently but continuously, the path ascends around 150 meters in altitude over the next four kilometers, offering magnificent views of Bad Lippspringe, the Senne, and the Teutoburg Forest.

Past Hindahls Kreuz and the Neuenbekener Hütte, it soon descends rapidly into the charming Beketal. After crossing the Beke and the subsequent country road, it becomes mysterious when passing through an almost 100-meter long railway underpass. This is followed by a saddle, and soon the Dunetal is reached, spanned by the Kleines Viadukt, which is also a recommended starting point for the Hoehenweg hike.

Once again, about 150 meters in altitude must be overcome in just under three kilometers until Paderborn's highest elevation is reached. It is impossible to miss, as a "summit cross" - with a summit book! - clearly marks the spot. Through the "Mittelholz", you first pass by the "Buche mit den zwei Beinen", then by the Pestfriedhof, and from there back towards Neuenbeken, with beautiful views of the village. From the former Uhden glassworks and the mausoleum of the glassmaker family, it is only a short descent until the starting point is reached again.
