Monument Route Herford

This circular route is more like a city tour and is the shortest and easiest of the monument cycling routes in the Herford district. Starting from Herford train station, you first drive past the bus station and follow the signs towards the center. After two closely spaced underpasses, you ride on the Wall Circular Path towards the Daniel-Pöppelmann-Haus. After crossing the Hertabrücke, you pass through the Aawiesenpark and reach the city cemetery on Hermannsstraße. After a short detour to the small Jewish cemetery, the path leads through "Unter den Linden" street to the Werre (follow HF8). A few hundred meters upstream, you cross over to the other side via the foot and bicycle bridge. Here awaits the only climb of this tour - up the Parkstraße in first gear and then continuing through the park at Langenberg. Once you reach the top on a quiet meadow, you have the opportunity to catch your breath and have a picnic. The route then goes via Stiftberg with a detour to the city theater back down to the Werre. This is followed by a section through the historic old town of Herford. Numerous restaurants invite you to stop here. Finally, the route passes by the regionally renowned Museum MARTa back to the train station. The 8.5 km short route mainly leads on paved bike paths through parks or on asphalt side streets with only occasional car traffic. Since only one significant incline needs to be overcome, the circular route is also suitable for less experienced cyclists or families with children. The parking lot at the city theater is an alternative starting point. However, it is also easily possible to start from any point along the route. Herford train station can be reached by the Regional Express of Deutsche Bahn from Bünde and Bad Oeynhausen, among others. The Eurobahn between Bielefeld and Rahden (RB 71) complements the train connection. Bicycle transport is possible (limited) on both.
