Under the leadership of Johannes Schmidt and with the active support of Norbert Striegan, the local association Heimatverein Hohkeppel 1954 e.V. has created a SONG TRAIL in Hohkeppel. The approximately 3.8 km long circular path starts at the "Weiße Pferdchen" and leads initially through meadows and tall woods into the valley, then along the water and past beautiful viewpoints back to the "Weiße Pferdchen". Numerous signposts guide the way, making it almost impossible to get lost.
On the hiking trail, 12 stations invite visitors to not only relax on cozy, rustic benches, but also to sing old Bergisch folk songs on song panels. The lyrics of the songs can be read from the panels, and the corresponding melodies can be downloaded via a specific app using the QR codes attached to the panels.
After starting with the "Bergisches Heimatlied" at the Weiße Pferdchen, the following songs are offered to sing along the way:
Auf du junger Wandersmann
Am Brunnen vor dem Tore
Es klappert die Mühle am rauschenden Bach
Das Wandern ist des Müllers Lust
Freut euch des Lebens
Mein Vater war ein Wandersmann
Im Frühtau zu Berge
Hoch auf dem gelben Wagen
Wohlauf in Gottes schöne Welt
Weißt du, wie viel Sternlein stehen
Kein schöner Land
Jetzt kommen die lustigen Tage
But not only hiking and singing can visitors enjoy on the song trail; there are also some attractions to visit: a water treading pool, a weather station, an "old castle", a dwarf cave, and a Marian altar. At a gratitude altar in the valley, those who wish can place stones inscribed with words of thanks or sayings. Visitors can also solve puzzles carved on panels.
The song trail is an exciting, diverse hiking trail for young and old alike. It is especially suitable for school classes and groups of all kinds. The starting and ending point of the circular tour is at the "Weissen Pferdchen" in Lindlar-Hohkeppel, a former carter's inn in a beautiful old half-timbered house.
