High Route (Lohmar)

From the parking lot, we cross the federal road and start on the Aggertal cycle path to the right towards Wahlscheid. Before Kreuznaaf, we leave the cycle path and turn right onto the K34 towards Höffen. After about 300 meters, we take the second right turn, which leads us through a well-asphalted but quite steep road through the forest up to Grimberg. Grimberg is a small, rural village today, which was already mentioned in documents around 1200. At that time, miners lived here, as in other places on the "Breidter-Rücken", who mined ores in the nearby mines. Relics of these activities can be seen in various places in the Naafbachtal with good local knowledge; Grimberg is directly above one of these tunnels.
We drive up Röllberger Straße through the so-called "Unterdorf" until we reach a bus turning point, which also represents the center of the village. By the way, the large yew tree standing to the right of the small half-timbered house is designated as a natural monument. We now follow the long road up to the K 37, which we cross in order to drive past ponies and goats along the field path to Salgert. From here, we go downhill to Geber and around Geber.
Along an agricultural path that offers a beautiful view over the Jabachtal, we drive to the farm road that leads to the Breidtersteegsmühle in the Jabachtal. Grain is still ground with water power in this mill today. For kindergarten or school groups, there are guided tours of the mill operation, which otherwise sells organic products, animal feed, and garden supplies.
We cross the road and follow the agricultural path until we reach the street "Auf dem Luxenberg" below the kindergarten and gymnasium in Breidt.
If you want to take a short break now, turn left and drive a few meters up to "Haus Wacker", a restaurant with a beer garden.
If you want to continue, follow the path that leads into the small valley. Passing a small but worth seeing wetland, we stay in the valley and drive along the well-developed agricultural path always parallel to the K37 into Krahwinkel. Continuing along this road, we soon reach the "Dorfstraße", which we accompany uphill to the "Krahwinkler Straße" (K37) on the left and then follow it to the right over the federal road 56. At the next junction, we turn right over Pohlhausen to Hochhausen, where we cross the B56 again at the "Hochkreuz". After a "left-right combination" through Birk, we drive down to Lohmar via Algert. Passing the fish farm, we turn right towards Hauptstraße and follow it to our starting point in Donrath.
