Dunes, dyke and gravel stories: Circular hiking trail Kalkar-Wissel

The route runs from the historic city center of Kalkar out into the Lower Rhine nature. It goes over the summer dike, offering views of meadows and fields where herons or even pairs of storks can often be observed searching for food. Along the Kalflak stream, the path leads far away from paved roads to the Fingerhutshof and then directly along the Wisseler Lake, always with water in sight. A gravel teaching path provides information about the formation of the Wisseler Lakes and gravel extraction in the Lower Rhine region in general. The tour reaches a peak with the Wisseler Dunes nature reserve. The unique flora and fauna of this first nature reserve in the Kleve district are explained on information boards. A detour into the dune area is possible. In summer, the Wisseler See leisure park with its natural swimming pool offers a wonderful cooling off. The return to Kalkar leads, among other things, through an old chestnut avenue and again along the Kalflak. In Kalkar, the gastronomy entices with refreshments for every taste.
